 2016 Preview 


       Last year Muscle Shoals captured the region 8 title and a number one seed in the Class 6A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Muscle Shoals reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Minor by a score of 23-16.

       Averaging over ten wins a season since 2010, Muscle Shoals has gone a combined 64-12. Their 84.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 6A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Muscle Shoals has managed to compile a record of 141-131. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 6A and 162nd in the AHSAA.

       The Trojans are led by head coach Scott Basden who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 75-23 over the past eight seasons at Muscle Shoals. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have won four region crowns with Coach Basden.

       Coach Basden's overall record as a head football coach in sixteen seasons stands at 144-52 (73.5%). His 144 wins rank 29th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Basden's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won seven region championships.

       The Trojans enter the 2016 season riding a 15 game regular season winning streak. Muscle Shoals has won 9 consecutive region games. They have won 37 straight games on their home field at J.F. Moore Stadium.

      The Muscle Shoals Trojans will play in Class 6A region 8 during the 2016 season.

       The Trojans should be considered one of the favorites for the Region 8 championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

       The Trojans open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Gardendale on Friday, August 19 at J.F. Moore Stadium. Last year the Gardendale Rockets finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in second place in Class 6A region 6. The Rockets lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Austin by a score of 53-38.

       Muscle Shoals and Gardendale have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 5-1-0 record against the Rockets. They last met in 2019 with Muscle Shoals winning by a score of 30-27.
